The problem

Novo Nordisk had a GLP-1 treatment with proven benefits for a specialist segment, but those specialists didn't see it as their job. They had identity barriers, incumbent loyalty, and professional ego that made conventional sales approaches useless. The stated brief was 'get specialists to recommend our GLP-1.' The real challenge was changing entrenched professional behaviour without attacking the expertise that defined them.

What I did

Conducted 40-50 ethnographic interviews with specialists to map their actual decision-making psychology. Discovered the insight to position as 'and not or': complement the incumbent rather than displace it. Designed a 6-month content calendar and sales enablement programme built around validating their current practice first, then introducing GLP-1s as an enhancement.

What I learned

Market entry isn't about convincing people they're wrong. It's about showing them how to be even more right.

You can't message your way around identity barriers. Attack their choices, lose the conversation. Validate their expertise, earn permission to suggest.

Complement beats compete when changing entrenched behaviour.
