How do you become a first-mover in pharma e-commerce distribution?

The problem
E-commerce platforms were transforming healthcare access, but prescription medication faced regulatory complexity that kept most pharma companies out. Novo Nordisk India had no digital distribution presence, no e-commerce partnerships, and internal risk aversion. If a public failure happened, it would be a brand issue. There was no precedent, no playbook, and no guaranteed regulatory path.
What I did
Evaluated major e-commerce platforms against healthcare maturity, patient verification capabilities, and brand safety. Negotiated a partnership model addressing pricing parity, co-marketing responsibilities, and performance metrics. Built the internal business case with traffic analysis, conversion assumptions, and patient LTV projections. Executed a phased rollout.
Outcomes
What I learned
First-mover advantage comes with solving the complexity others won't touch.
Internal business case was as important as the external strategy.
Phased rollout (pilot, validate, scale) is the way to move fast in regulated industries without blowing up.
